We are not alone. I am not alone!
I came to Substack last summer, while I was auditing Timothy Snyder’s History of Modern Ukraine class on youtube, because his reading list was here. I started posting and participating in livestream comments as a way to find an answer to Pink Floyd’s question:
“Is there anybody out there?”

You.
You are out there, amplifying my better thoughts, sharing your thoughts, wit, laughter, outrage. Your readership and authentic interactions are welcome, even when we disagree. I remain committed to one team, one fight, for the Republic.

Together, we will move forward and navigate this storm. We can support each other as the struggle stretches out, and as the risks deepen. But make no mistake, we have it within ourselves to rise to the occasion and earn the title Great Generation. I am sorry the task is at our feet, but there it waits.
I hope we take the lesson of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters who are carrying the weight of this global war on Democracy squarely on their shoulders, and stand for our Constitution, for our Democratic Republic, and for our communities.
I continue my late return to academics, and will post some more bland content involving history and anthropology. But fear not! There is always at least some pithy commentary I can offer.
As I have been from my first “Like”, I am humbled by your tolerant and continued support.
Thank you for helping to grow this Journal and community.
Thank You.
